I’ll start with an organizational problem. Namely, I am a fan of Counter-Strike in the “classic” version, that is 1.6. I’ve been playing this version for years, and I have a affection for it. Any subsequent attempts (CS: Source, Condition Zero) to create anything from this brand I find stupid and pointless.

So, in the Global offensive, I decided to look not only through the prism of writing this review, but also to assess whether the worthy successor of the old king came here.

There is a dilemma with games like Counter-Strike because it is no longer a game, in their classic sense. We are dealing with e-sports platforms and evaluate them as if football were evaluated, for example, in which new improvements were made (like a new detection system, or the ball hit the target that should be used during the world Cup).

So we’re getting to the bottom of this.

In General, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is an attempt to find a middle ground between the convenience of the game and the support of a huge community. No one will forgive Valve if they prohibit the creation and use of mods and custom maps, and new players can get lost in a maze of obscure server add-ons and the need to download additional files for unofficial games.

The problem was solved quite effectively – the game was divided. At the menu level, we choose whether we want to play on the principles adopted in General, or enter the desert of private servers and hundreds of different mods.

It is worth noting that even selecting a game with predefined settings, we are not doomed to two classic game modes – bomb attack and hostages.

This, of course, and in two configurations (classic tournament, where friendly fire is turned on, and penetration through friends is excluded, and the tournament is simplified, where the opposite is true – you can shoot yourself, as well as boldly go through them), but they offer us Global Offensive modes “Destruction of the object” and “arms Race”, which are much more dynamic than those that we already know.

The Arms race is the most dynamic mode, mainly due to the fact that we do not wait for rebirth, only our character automatically returns to the respawn after death, and the game continues. How long? Well, every time we kill an enemy, we get another bonus from an Arsenal of 27 weapons.

Each of them must kill one enemy. So the game ends when the first person grabs the fragments of each weapon, which is difficult in that at the end you play with the weapon and the last kill must be completed … knife.

Demo is a mode that combines the above description with the known bomb disposal. New weapons to destroy the enemy, get to the start of each round (a total of 10 rounds), and the goal is to attach an explosive device, or prevent this if we stand on the side of the antiterrorist law. A little piquancy is added by the fact that there are fewer maps, and the place of the bomb – only one.

I don’t need to write about classic modes, because in this aspect, little has changed. We still have to deal with the explosive charge or the hostages. All on classic though slightly modified maps-dust, pyl2, Inferno, Aztec, office, Italy, train and Nuke.

Unfortunately, my favorite attack is absent in official modes, but it can already affect private servers. As for the changes – they are mainly used to balance the game, adding new transitions or remodeling some rooms. Thanks to the new staircase and the pedestrian bridge “lower” passage on the map is no longer a suicide.

Of course, we also have new chips, although there is nothing to boast about. Well, maybe the best balance of one of the parties and the considerable accuracy in determining the abilities of others. In any case, the Orthodox will play with M4 / gala in their hands, and nothing will change. AWP still exists, you can still show your friends how cool you are.

For this deadly single-stranded stun gun, incendiary grenade / Molotov cocktail and bait, or grenade simulating the sounds of shots. Good for distraction or setting traps.

I will add that people who are completely green in CS and FPP games in General can be trained in learning mode. They will learn the basics of using the equipment available in the game and will take a test that will test their skills.

If someone does not feel confident even after such training, Valve has given us the opportunity to play with bots, the level of skill that we set for ourselves at its discretion.

Let’s move on to the most important aspect – how to play? Well, it’s still Counter-Strike with all that baggage behind it. About the standard in today’s games, you can forget about every weapon. If something does not have an optical sight, you shoot “from the hip” and shoot.

Two factors are still important – the place you aim and the recoil that increases when you stand / walk / run, and the smallest when your character crouches.

Shooting at the legs or body still makes little sense, because if we do not use a sniper rifle at our disposal, then you need to shoot at the head. Counter-Strike is still a rebus game, with shot physics that is closer to 1.6 than the products of competitors. This is a big plus.

By the way, efforts are achievements. Currently, not so much, so that the game on the Steam platform can do without “chips”. This is no different from CS: GO. However, this time there are 167. Some do not pose a big problem (kill x enemies or get x money), but some are more problematic.

Take, for example,” in an unusual situation”, the need to kill 5 enemies with the explosion of a bomb that you picked up. Today it is very rare. Killing the enemy with a weapon that he has released also happens rarely.

But let’s be honest – achievements are not the essence of the game, and the addition that can make this game more enjoyable for many people. Let’s move on.

By the way subsequent changes. I’ll start optional, on the sonic side of production. Valve put on memories and installed in Global Offensive as many of the famous classical CS sounds as he could. From shopping sounds, throwing objects, etc.most of the sounds we already know.

However, we do not know the graphic design. This, like CS: Source, is based on … Source engine. Games, however, do not look the same, Global Offensive boasts more beautiful textures, models, shadows … mostly more enjoyable.

However, it’s not Battlefield level, or even created on one engine for the next part of Call of Duty, but if we’re talking production to replace the 12-year – old predecessor, then the question of the schedule isn’t the most important thing.

Finally, the question – for whom Global Offensive created, and whether in it put? Looking from my point of view, the CS was created for those who once in CS 1.6 played with great enthusiasm, and that they are already tired and was not so interesting (as in my case), and for CS players and could not play.

The first will not gnash their teeth, seeing that after a few years saw the classic “six” Minecraft, and in the new products will find sufficient similarity to your favorite game, and those others… Well, also will not gnash teeth and sufficiently will be able to get acquainted with this game.

PS the Rating of this game is very high. On the one hand, it is difficult to perceive it as an ordinary game, on the other hand, I should not put it above other games.
